Besucherbergwerk Schieferstollen "Josefsglück" Brachbach

Detailed description

The slate mine "Josefsglück" in the Druiden.Hexen.SiegerLand was once developed as a small operation where a handful of miners worked from 1896 to 1925 in three exploration shafts searching for slate.

After extensive preparation it has been operated as a visitor mine since June 9, 2011.

You will "walk through" the approximately 300 m long tunnel. In the seven mining chambers, we will show you, among other things, how slate

 was formed

 was extracted and mined

 was produced and used and

how the tunnel was driven into the mountain.

Unique worldwide is the "rising sun" installed in mining hall 3. Let yourself be surprised.

The route is flat, mostly dry, and can be described as senior-friendly. Children are allowed to enter from the age of 10.

The air in the tunnel is clearer and purer than anywhere else. The temperature is consistently around 8°C and the humidity is about 86%. It is advisable to wear appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. During the approximately one-hour guided tour, helmets are mandatory, which will be provided to you along with "lighting" at no charge.

In an approximately 1 to 1.5-hour tour, you will not only gain insights into the world of our ancestors - the miners. You will meet like-minded people for a cozy and unforgettable experience underground at the visitor mine "Josefsglück."

Directions: Signposted from the town entrance of Brachbach. In the town center, drive along Mittelstraße until the end of Marienstraße. You can park your vehicle at the nearby hiking parking lot and easily reach the mine house with a small exhibition museum of "Josefsglück" after walking uphill for about 200 m. More information about the visitor mine is also available for download at: www.heimatverein-brachbach.de/baudenkmale/besucherbergwerk-josefsglück/

The visitor mine is part of the painstakingly restored mine hiking trail (GeoRoute) with a total of 13 shaft portals. Consider combining a visit to the mine with a hike along the mine hiking trail (approx. 5 km or alternatively nearly 10 km) around Brachbach. A separate brochure about the hiking trail with lots of information and pictures about the route and the various shafts is available at the local community of Brachbach or for download at www.heimatverein-brachbach.de/baudenkmale/grubenwanderweg/.

We look forward to welcoming you to an unforgettable underground experience in "Josefsglück" in the Druiden.Hexen.SiegerLand with a warm GLÜCK-AUF.
